After years of studying classical dance, hip hop, Argentinian tango and Latin American dances, Sara devoted herself entirely to a new great passion; Oriental Dance. In 2001, upon returning from a journey to Lebanon and Syria, she started studying this discipline with the best international teachers. She studied Egyptian style mainly with Dr. Mo Geddawi and Argentinian Style with Amir Thaleb, among many other masters.
In 2002 she took part in the tv program “Rai Prix Italia”, in Catania with the Middle-Eastern Orchestra directed by Nour Eddine. In 2006 she constituted a cultural association, Tery Al Kubra. In the same year, thanks to Master Nuria Sala Grau, Sara fell in love with Bharatanatyam dance, opening herself to Bollywood. She studied Bollywood dance in depth in India at Saroj Khan’s school in Mumbai as well as with Sunny and Suresh Singh, Meera Varma, Mistri and Seeta. She studied Indian classical and folkloric dances with many local teachers.
In May 2007, Sara was certified as an Oriental Dance Teacher by the Italian Federation for sporting dances (FIDS) and became Federal Judge for many competitions. Since 2007 she has been taking part in Sete Sois Sete Luas international Festival as a representative of Sicily, with performances and workshops in Portugal and Spain, often together with the electronic Arabic music band Triatriba directed by the percussionist Giorgio Rizzo. In this framework, she also collaborated with Jamal Ouassini and his orchestra during a special event in the city of Pollina.
Since 2007, Sara expanded from teaching all over Italy to being invited to teach and perform Oriental Dance and Bollywood abroad to include France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Bulgaria, Belgium and Turkey.
In 2010 Sara founded, organized and became Artistic Director of the first edition of Khamsin Festival, the international festival of Arabic music, culture and dance in Sicily. www.Khamsinfestival.com. Until now, the nine editions of this festival have brought to Sicily many international great artists.
Currently she teaches Middle-Eastern and Bollywood dance in her school in Aci Bonaccorsi, Catania. She choreographs dances for competitions, mentors dancers and is teaching master classes throughout Italy.
Sara is also the art director and choreographer of her Professional Dance Company “le Donne di Ararat” which perform all over Europe for the last decade. She continues to hone her knowlegde of Argentinian Oriental style with Yael Torchinsky. More recently, she teaches at the Sunny Singh Bollywood Dance Academy in Sicily and in 2014 was the director in the European Union’s project for the creation of a Children’s musical.
Sara’s style is full of elegance and grace. Her group choreography is always engaging and full of creative visual effects. A versatile artist, Sara Pappalardo continues to evolve and is quickly becoming one of Europe’s Stars of Oriental and Fusion Dance.
